The countdown to the holidays is well and truly on and we’re already humming festive tunes and working out how many mince pies we can eat before college closes for the Christmas break.
There’s plenty going on at the Derby Road campus to spread festive cheer over the next few weeks. Take a look at just some of what’s available to students, from interesting gift ideas, to ways to help others and fun things to get involved in.
Want to give a little something back this Christmas?
Animal Care students are once again producing shoe boxes for the RSPCA in Radcliffe; helping animals who may not have a warm, family home at Christmas time. The boxes will be sent on the last week of term, so there’s still time to bring in a donation (empty shoe boxes are welcomed, along with items for cats, dogs and small animals including treats, grooming brushes, collars, bowls etc.). Donations are being collected in room 6a, foundation studies.
Looking for Christmas gifts? Revive hair and beauty salon and spa are selling a range of gift sets and vouchers, including GHDs and Dermalogica products. Call in to see the offers available or to book yourself a hair or beauty appointment to become Christmas party ready!
The college’s enterprising Christmas Market comes to the covered courtyard on Wednesday 7 December. Pick yourself up a bargain or two with handmade gifts, crafts, clothing, homewares and services on offer. The market will run from 10am-2pm; plenty of time for you to visit between lessons or on lunch.
Feeling fit? The annual West Notts Santa Fun Run is back on Wednesday 14 December. Join in by running, walking (or waltzing). This year the run will be in support of the Mansfield Winter Shelter, as well as Unicef’s Syrian Blanket Campaign.
There’s a £2 entry fee to join in, but if you’re raising money this fee is waived if you’ve raised £2 or over. Sponsor forms can be obtained from the Students’ Union. Registration for the run will take place on the day in the Vision Room between 11.30am and 1.30pm, with the race starting at 2pm. Following the race, there’ll be an ‘after party’ and presentation in the covered courtyard with hot drinks, snacks and music.
For even more goings on over the next few weeks, speak to the Student Experience Team, or visit the Students’ Union block at the Derby Road Campus for more. You can also visit the college’s Facebook or Twitter pages.
We wish you a merry Christmas and a Happy New Year and look forward to seeing you back in January 2017.
