Your first few weeks starting as a student at West Notts or settling back into college life is bound to come as a shock after a long summer break, but we’re here to help you in any way we can! Here’s our handy back to college checklist to make life a little bit easier.
Friends, fun and fantastic discounts!
Looking to make new friends? Start as you mean to go on and get involved with the Students’ Union. It’s a great way to make friends and make the most of your time between lessons.
Remember, this time is your own – but we encourage you to take part in cross-college activities which will boost your CV, your confidence and your social circle! There are plenty of clubs and societies, and sports activities to join in with.
You can also apply for an NUS card to enjoy discounts at many shops online and on the high street. Visit www.nus.org.uk for more information.
No lanyard? No way!
Get into the habit of wearing your lanyard. Lanyards must be worn at all times in college to help us to know who is on campus, and your identity card also doubles as your bus pass, library and printer access and cashless catering card.
Getting to college
If you’re getting to college by bus, make sure you know where your pick-up and drop-off points are, and what time you’ll need to catch it to be at college on time. If you’re driving – you’ll need a car parking pass, which you can apply for at reception.
The college has diners, cafés and vending machines for food and drink onsite. Make sure you activate your cashless catering account, which allows you to pay for your meals quickly and easily.
Please note: the vending machines are cash only!
And some important info…
Have you got any PPE (personal protective equipment), books, calculators, pens etc. that you need for your course? You should have received information from your tutor about what you’ll need on your course – if you haven’t we’re sure you’ll find this out in your first week.
It’s also good to familiarise yourself with fire exits, first aid and emergency information
– all of which can be found in your student handbook. If you need to know more, our friendly teams at reception can point you in the right direction.
Remember, if you need anything – no matter how big or small, there’s a team at college ready and waiting to help. You can also find any information you need on our website, or the student portal, or you can even text our Whatsapp service if you have a question, just text 07816587810 (please note: you’ll only get a response during general college open hours; between 8.30am and 5pm).
