Between 6-10 March, the college will be celebrating both National Apprenticeship Week and National Careers Week, which this year have conveniently fallen together.
Throughout the week we will be hosting a range of drop-in events for you to come along and talk about careers and apprenticeships.
NATIONAL APPRENTICESHIP WEEK EVENTS
This year, National Apprenticeship Week is celebrating its tenth year, which means ten years of shouting about the positives of apprenticeships for both employers and, well, everyone!
Anyone over the age of 16 and living in the UK can start an apprenticeship. You can gain qualifications recognised in industry, vital work experience with a valued employer, and earn a weekly wage.
Vision Apprentices, the college’s apprenticeship recruitment service will be hosting a number of drop-in sessions for you to ask your questions and find out about vacancies in your local area.
On Monday 6 March the team will be stationed at the Engineering Innovation Centre (NG17 5FA) to answer your questions. On Wednesday 8 March, the same team will be at the Derby Road campus (NG18 5BH) as part of a careers and employability fair (see below for more details).
The college will also be hosting an apprenticeships information evening for people interested in apprenticeships. Come along with family and friends on Wednesday 15 March between 5.30pm-7.30pm to meet with advisors, find out more about apprenticeships and even apply for vacancies.
If you’d like to speak to an advisor sooner, you can call 0800 121 8317 and someone will be able to answer your call between 9am-5pm Monday-Friday.
NATIONAL CAREERS WEEK EVENTS
In support of National Careers Week, which aims to highlight the many wonderful and diverse career opportunities that are out there for young people, the college will be holding a careers and employability fair.
At the Engineering Innovation Centre on Monday 6 March, students will be able to take part in a work placement clinic and careers workshops, as well as meet with employers and apprenticeship providers.
Careers workshops will be held at the Derby Road campus on Tuesday 7 March between 12pm and 2pm, offering careers advice and a CV surgery.
Wednesday 8 March will include the main careers and employability fair at the Derby Road campus between 10.30am and 1.30pm.
Careers fair activities will include drop-in sessions designed to connect young people with various organisations who can offer them great advice about the world of work, and the various careers open to them.
Students will be able to speak to representatives from the RAF and Navy, AVON, Transline Group, NCS, Anytime Fitness, Pure Gym, Stellar Training, Centre Parcs, Respectful Care and many more.
Students will also be able to find out more about volunteering opportunities, including the NCS programme, and visit the work placement clinic – which has over 400 placement opportunities to look through.
There’ll be further careers workshops in the covered courtyard at Derby Road on Thursday 9 March between 12pm and 2pm, as well as an enterprise workshop.
Finally, on Friday 10 March, students can drop-in and speak to Ollie Pate, for a self-employment drop-in, who can advise you how to start your own business.
Remember, you’re always welcome to drop-in and see the college’s careers and employability team. They offer impartial advice about your career options, can help with UCAS applications, CV writing and job interview techniques. You’ll find them in their office by the main reception at Derby Road.
